Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) is the daughter of a world renowned Sangeet. Sameer (Salman Khan) is a singer who wishes to study under this world famous Guru. But it’s not all work, Sameer manages to find time to play as well. Who is his playmate you ask…Nandini (of course.) During the course of his stay, Sameer manages to worm his way into the playful Nandini’s heart. Unfortunately, misfortune comes knocking on Sameer’s door. Sameer and Nandini interfere in a family matter and bring “badnaam” upon the family. When Nandini’s father finds out about this he banishes Sameer from the house and Nandini’s life.

During this time, Vanraj (Ajay Devgan) sees Nandini at a wedding and falls in love with her instantly. The families arrange the marriage and a miserable Nandini marries Vanraj. All is well until Vanraj finds out that Nandini has been receiving letters from Sameer. He considers this to be the ultimate betrayal and sends her away.
